I’m a lucky girl. I have a boyfriend who loves me and compliments me daily. I know which heels he likes best on me and I know he loves when I throw my hair back in a messy bun. So it surprised me when he so blatantly dissed me a couple months ago.
Well, not me, necessarily, but my recently purchased Express Mid Rise Jeans. He thinks they are “too 80’s” and that the fact that they go “so far up my back” is ridiculous and of course the exaggerated “how can you even BREATHE?!?!” comment.
So instead of hearing him go on and on about my horrific fashion choice, I just looked at him and said, “FINE! Challenge. Accepted.”
I’m stubborn. So incredibly stubborn, but I get it honestly. I was going to do everything in my power to prove him wrong. These jeans are fabulous…and I will change his mind with a wave of my wand…or a walk in my closet.
Now let’s not forget that I’m a jeans and tee kind of girl. So obviously I first gravitated toward a tee. Now I know many fashionistas out there tuck in their tees but I do not. So when I threw on the tee, you couldn’t tell the jeans have a higher waistline. So there went that idea.
Next I grabbed a trusty moto jacket and tank. It looked fab, of course, but the moto jacket hid the waist of the jean. Again, this defeats the whole purpose. At this point I’m getting annoyed because I HAVE to win. I cannot let my boyfriend beat me at a FASHION game for cryin’ out loud!
So it’s time to take a step back. Analyze my thoughts and my closet, if you will. What else could work? I have a cute cropped sweater, but it’s still 94 degrees in Charlotte. Ugh!
And then it hit me. I had JUST shopped an amazing clearance rack at TJ Maxx and found this beautiful Polo Ralph Lauren black sheer blouse and realized that was EXACTLY the top I needed to prove Mika wrong.
What I love about this top is it’s sexy, feminine, comfy and looks gorgeous with a pair of mid rise jeans! I love that blouses like this can be worn with jeans, a suit, a pencil skirt, whatever you want! A structured blouse adds the perfect amount of chic to every outfit… including jeans!
So I threw on the blouse, tucked it into my fashionable jeans, grabbed my old but favorite Simply Vera – Vera Wang sunnies and my BCBG heels and I strutted my living room like a catwalk in front of my boyfriend.
Needless to say I won (of course I was going to win) and Mika said that though he still hates them (I mean, honestly, how can you loathe a pair of jeans?!?), he said I looked hot.
Challenge accepted. Challenge won.
